Window locks have either a clasp or bolt mechanism forcing the opportunist burglar to announce his arrival by having to spend extra time breaking considerably more glass, creating more noise (and at greater personal risk of injury) in order to gain entry to your home.
Insurance companies take into account the presence of window locks when determing premiums.
